I flew upside-down with William Langewiesche as my pilot in his Husky A-1B bush plane (right). See my articles on William here (Books & Culture) and here (Publishers Weekly) A best-selling author, international correspondent for Vanity Fair who has won the rare honor of being chosen by the editors of Penguin Modern Classics (U.K.) to publish a volume of his writings about flight titled Aloft, he is also, it so happens a pilot.

I visited Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.  Fred Rogers is the same in person as he was in his beloved show. He liked me just the way I am. See my article here.

I entered the Magic Kingdom of Frederick Buechner.  We shared a rainy spring day together in his writing space flipping through photo albums and having tea. See my article here.

I explored hidden tunnels and royals tombs of the Maya with lead archaeologists (and later, my son Ben) in Copan, Honduras. In addition to the article I wrote for Books & Culture, I incorporated this incredible opportunity into my novel, The Warrior King.

Spent 10 years of my career in the company of two of the industry's most stellar luminaries and my dear friends, John Wilson (Editor of Books & Culture) and Mickey Maudlin (Senior Vice President, Executive Editor, Dir of Bible Publishing at HarperCollins Publishers)

I ran into Saint Francis of Assisi while researching my book about him. Actually, this is well-known and much loved Italian actor, Ettore Bassi shooting on set in Bevagna, Italy for his acclaimed film "Chiara e Francesco" ("Clare and Francis").

I received a love poem from a young Nicaraguan poet. His name was Abel. I traveled to Nicaragua twice to research my book, Meet Me in Managua.

I lived in Assisi, Italy for 15 months to write my book on St. Francis. I befriended many friars, the town's Bishop, and gave speeches in Italian.
